The lot where the dental clinic will be built is located next to the main road which leads from the highway to the centre of Krapina, in the area characterized by family houses. The usual functional layout of the clinic had to be adapted to a very sloped terrain, sloping from the main road to the garden. The predetermined scheme and functional requirements that this type of structure had to meet required a practical approach and, as the result, the interior had to be vertically structured. The public area of the building is on the ground floor where there is the main entrance and the waiting room, 3 dentist’s offices and the dental x-ray room. The basement houses a dental laboratory, staff locker room and bathroom, as well as a kitchenette and an office.
The main (public) entrance to the building is on the street level, while the service entrance is on the garden (basement) level. The structure has a compact form and the dynamics is achieved by creating interspaces such as the patio on the basement storey, cantilever above the main entrance, roofed terrace on the west facade, and the vertical glass section on the east facade. By adjusting the building to the sloped terrain and creating a fore-court with respect to the street, we have respected the genius loci and the structure is perceived as a single-storey building when looking from the street. By combining different materials and creating calm and elegant facades, the clinic has been given a contemporary design.
