COMMERCIAL BUILDING “DUPLICO”

CLIENT
Duplico d.o.o.

LOCATION
Kalinovica, Rakov Potok

YEAR
2014-2015

GROSS FLOOR AREA
900.00 m2

The size of the lot and the urban development requirements determined the maximum plan area and the position of the building on the lot. The building is situated on a rather large but narrow and elongated lot, which in turn resulted in an elongated, rectangular plan view. In terms of design, it was conceived as two adjoining volumes and shaped by steep, double-sloping roof.

The project was assigned by company „Duplico“ d.o.o. who wanted the building to meet the requirements of a quality and functional work environment. The building should have offices and a workshop. The workshop for repair of printing equipment and construction of electrical cabinets, storeroom with auxiliary materials and spare parts, sanitary block, mechanical room and server room are located on the ground floor. The first floor and attic contain offices, toilets and a kitchenette. Office storeys have been conceived, in part, as separate, closed office units, while the rest have been envisaged as open space office areas – flexible space which can be subsequently defined in accordance with specific needs.

The attic storey, formed under the sloped roof, receives daylight exclusively through the skylights which have been integrated into the roofing. The skylights enable enough daylight to enter to all offices during the whole day and provide a powerful sense of space. In that manner, we have combined energy efficiency and day-long exposure to sunlight. The entrances to the building are located on the north façade at the level of the surrounding terrain. The quarter-turn staircases are located in the east and west facades and connect all storeys.

The project concept stems from the desire to design a unique structure which will reconcile the surrounding urban matrix and, at the same time, meet the requirements of the project in question. The solution with two adjoining volumes which determine the outside appearance of the building has proven to be the accomplishment of our planned goals and at the same time provided a quality connection with the surrounding structures.

By using a simple, but at the same time very attractive effect of painting the façade in several colours, we have given the building its level of recognition, uniqueness and special value. The colours we used are the colours of the company logo which are present both in the exterior and the interior. Contemporary construction of commercial buildings is characterized by a trend of using architecture as one of the ways to present one’s brand and quality level, as well as financial power and values and functional business achievements. The primary task of architecture in that sense is emphasizing the company’s business identity and the course of its development.
