The family house in Bestovje is the example of a typical family house built in the mid 70s in a peaceful neighbourhood, for residential purposes exclusively. The wish of the investor was that the house he had inherited from his parents would be renovated in a modern fashion and the interior adapted to his desired mode of usage. The existing construction of the house and plan disposition of the rooms enabled a minimum intervention in the manner that the kitchen was transferred and separated from the living room and the dining room, but at the same time the spaces retained maximum functional connection. The existing façade openings of the kitchen and the dining room were enlarged in order to enable direct exit to the garden where new terraces have been formed for relaxing and enjoying the outdoors.

Since the investor did not want significant engineering interventions, we respected the position of the existing openings and corrected them only minimally so as to achieve their uniformity and the minimalist expression. During the reconstruction of the house, we respected the wish of the investor to paint part of the façade in a vivid colour and so we used yellow to accentuate the recessed parts of the loggia which blended harmoniously with the prevailing colour of white and anthracite parts of the façade. This house is an example how with a carefully planned reconstruction budget (reconstruction of the façade and the roof) and a fruitful cooperation of the investor and the architect, one can completely transform the appearance of the existing house in compliance with modern architectural trends.
