LOCATION
Klara, Zagreb

YEAR
2012-2014

GROSS FLOOR AREA
300.00 m2

Located on a large lot in the Zagreb suburb of Klara, in a quiet residential street, away from the hustle and bustle of city life, Family house K is a spacious, two-storey house whose living area opens towards the garden through a conservatory. Despite its contemporary design, the house fits into the neighbourhood with its complex pitched roofing and four dormers.

In designing the house, we respected the functional requirements of a family of four who wanted a personalized home with an unusual, complex pitched roof and attractive lines of sight. Special attention has been given to the use of natural materials which ensure healthy and comfortable living. The size and layout of the rooms have been fully subjected to functionality, and the architectural form, although stemming from urban architecture models, fits ideally into the existing residential matrix of the neighbourhood.

The house is characterized by emphasized horizontal lines with a shallow complex roof, drawn out eaves and the flat roofs of the garage and the conservatory. The complex geometry of the roof is also present in the facades and becomes the basis for the design of house openings.

The basement contains the cellar, while the ground floor houses the living area, kitchen and dining room as well as one bedroom. All living areas form a whole and are visually connected to the garden through the conservatory, thus enabling the use of the garden during the entire year. Bedrooms are located upstairs under the pitched roof, and all three floors are connected by a quarter-turn staircase. A number of skylights integrated into the roofing contribute to create a bright and sunny interior allowing the daylight to enter into all rooms during the entire day and, in addition, create a strong sense of space.
