HOUSE MAKEOVER IN PODSUSED

INVESTOR
private

LOCATION
Zagreb

YEAR
2017

FLOOR AREA
180.00 m2

The aim of the makeover was to meet the demands of the investor for an integrated residential unit encompassing the ground floor and the first floor and a more modern design of the façade by using materials and colours of urban architecture.

The task was to redesign the existing house of uncommon architectural design comprised of two separate residential units into a modern and functional home for a family of five with as less structural works on the external envelope of the house as possible and by applying new contemporary forms.

The house is distributed across three levels: basement, ground floor and the 1st floor connected by an internal staircase. By using minimum interventions on the ground floor, we have created an integrated, open-space living zone consisting of the kitchen, dining room and the living room which is well connected to other interior and exterior spaces of the house and represents the very core of the ground floor from which you can access the study, basement and the entrance hall. In the entrance hall there is a staircase leading to the more intimate, sleeping zone of the house situated on the 1st floor. Large glass walls of the living room and the study open that part of the ground floor towards the garden and enable it to merge with the spacious garden. All partition walls were removed on the 1st floor in order to create four bedrooms, bathroom and a separate toilet to meet the requirements of a young family of five.

In designing the façade, the idea was to create a contemporary minimalist composition dominated by a new overhang above the entrance clad in wood and achieve the contrast between the dominating white façade and its highlighted grey parts.
