GROSS FLOOR AREA
240.00 m2

Family house P is located in the neighbourhood characterized by family houses of uniform outlines built on lots of uniform sizes. The house has been designed for a family with two children who wanted a simple, modern and a comfortable family house. The house consists of two functionally different floors connected by internal, quarter-turn staircase. The ground floor level has been designed in such a manner that the smaller part is used as a service area with the garage, laundry room and a walk-in closet and the larger part serves as the living zone with the kitchen, dining room and living room. At the entrance, we designed a draught lobby through which you enter the hall which opens to the main area of the house – living room and dining room, while the quarter-turn staircase leads to the upper floor. The sleeping zone is situated on the 1st floor and consists of the children’s area and the parents’ area. The children’s area is composed of two bedrooms and a children’s bathroom. The parents’ area is a whole, consisting of a master bedroom, bathroom, and a walk-in closet. In addition, there is a study/guest room on this floor.

On the ground floor, we have used sliding doors which, by sliding into the walls and closets create a unique, integrated space, and by closing, divide the space into functional units. The house has been conceived in such a way that the ground floor – the living zone – extends to the garden and the outdoors through a roofed terrace on the southwest side of the lot. Such an orientation provides for quality lines of sight unobstructed by the surrounding buildings.

In the exterior design of the house, we respected the traditional building features in the manner that we adhered to traditional typology and, at the same time, enriched it by using new forms arising from contemporary requirements. The basic pattern of traditional construction characteristic for this region is an elegant plan shape (relatively narrow, rectangular plan view) with the dominating double-pitched roof. In that way, the house respects the neighbourhood standards and the traditional building features but, at the same time, it is endowed by a contemporary composition of the facade dominated by the front door overhang in anthracite colour emphasizing the entrance to the house and the garage. Facade openings have a dual character, depending on their orientation. On the garden side, we opted for large glass openings that frame the green garden, while from the street side, they are horizontal windows which ensure intimacy and allow diffuse light penetration. There are many features that make this house interesting and unique and their usage affects the entire architectural composition, such as the entrance to the house from the garage and the vertical opening in the children’s bathroom on the 1st floor leading to the laundry room below which enables easy delivery of laundry to the laundry room.

The materials used in the exterior design of the facade are in correlation with the spatial disposition of the rooms inside the house. By using a smooth, white colour in contrast to anthracite openings, we have accomplished both the dynamics and elegance of the facade. Anthracite facade openings are cut into the white mass thus emphasizing the monolithic character of the volume, while the overhang, roofed terrace, loggia and protruding niche represent sculptural elements which accentuate the facade.
